What is leadership coaching?

Leadership coaching is a powerful process to leverage and transform leaders, the workplace and the community. Centered on a professional, ongoing relationship between the coach and the organization, leadership coaching leads to legitimate organizational change, including a consistent organizational culture and relevant tools for leadership. It succeeds largely due to the unique combination of:

Assessing the leadership needs of the organization
and its leaders
Designing targeted solutions for change “system-
wide”
Fully integrating the team involved during the
process
Maintaining the momentum to see the changes
through

Benefits of leadership coaching for you and your organization

Improved productivity and program implementation
Cost savings from greater productivity and
retention of employees
Enhanced organizational morale and trust in the
team and its leaders
More effective communication between staff
and/or board members
Better decision-making
Healthier life/work balance and reduced burnout
for staff

Scenarios for leadership coaching

Leverage team talents to match organizational
goals

Align board and staff with the organization's
mission
Enhance motivation, inspiration, and trust
Design a plan for better management and
communication
Build a succession plan for organizational
sustainability
Create or implement a strategic plan for a new
program or fundraising initiative
Design strategies for personnel issues

Coaching vs. Consulting

Coaching is different from consulting in that it relies on maintaining/monitoring the momentum once implementation has begun, ensuring that the impact is more deeply integrated and permanent. Consultants often offer suggestions for change but don't help implement or maintain the process to see the recommendations through to fruition. And, coaching often surfaces solutions from the team itself in lieu of outside advice, leading to greater buy-in and resourcefulness.
